Shall Never Surrender

“I’ll kill you all…” She said simply, smiling as she charged forward.

Shadow Eye smiled. Shin cried. She cried out all her sorrow, all her pain, all of her regrets, while still doing her best to drive the speedboat though the river they entered right after exiting the underground tunnel. Looking back… it was as if the sky on top of her beloved city was crimson red. She thought of her mother, her mom, the people at the castle, Dr. Load, Miss Amy, Shadow Hand and Rufus, Shadow Eye, Ryujin. Everybody was still there, in that hell… while she escaped, ran away as a coward.

No… it wouldn’t be like that.

She would find help as soon as possible. She would protect her sisters until then, and she would come back to the city to help everybody. Yes, she would.

So for now, she had to go forth. She might be safe now, just like her sisters, who were resting on the other seat, hugging each other, but she still had a lot to do. The first time she contemplated the idea of driving this launch by herself, it scared her, but now she wished it could go even faster. Until she was reunited with her loved ones, she would not be able to shake away the emptiness she was feeling inside.

Please… just wait for me.

The motor exploded.

“What!?”

Shin barely had time to look behind her and see something stabbed on the motor before the boat started to fall apart. She quickly turned the wheel… and somehow that managed to approach the launch to the shoreline, where it smashed against some rock. The older sister, with the two younger ones in her arms, quickly jumped off in that very same instant, landing on the grassland while the remains of the launch behind her would sink on the river. On the last moment, the very same weapon that had pierced the engine went flying back to its owner.

The princess of the fallen kingdom was just reassuring her sisters when she noticed the responsible for what had just happened. It descended from the skies, filling the young girl of fear, the fear that represented nothing else but the end of all hope, the very same terror of knowing that there was no salvation now.

None of the robots she confronted during this night had failed to demonstrate as much ability as their appearance gave for granted, and now, the thought of this one not matching her fears could not even pass through her mind. This robot, who initially reminded her of the knights, had not only propellers which allowed him to fly, but also wings to make it properly. Its long lance, which she had seen in the boat’s motor just seconds ago, was now his own right forearm, curiously. It did have a left arm and metallic hand, too, but these were also equipped with a shield. When it landed, it stood on three legs, the middle one, by the way it was built, in front of the other two. The rest of its design was similar to the Knights, with a body, a head and a visor on it.

This one was a real assassin. A robot created for hunting down the stronger prays, the harder ones to chase… like her, who had never been so unhappy for gaining so much attention.

This was… a battle she could not win.

“Sheki, Kasy… you two stay here, got it?” She said as she left the two little girls near a rock. The babies just looked at her with their big, green eyes, as if they were trying to understand what she was saying. “Big sis here got some work to do, so wait here while I kick this bad guy’s ass, all right?” She stood up, but then kneeled again “Oh! And please don’t tell our mommies I just said that, or they’ll punish me, okay? ”

She smiled and caressed both girls heads, causing them to giggle, before leaving them there as she walked away from them, wanting to put as much as possible distance between them and the battle that was about to take place.

Her hands that once more held the daggers were trembling. Her respiration was far too irregular like to be of any help. Sweat dropped from her forehead.

She charged forward, running straight towards the android, just to meet with its lance’s first strike, which she barely avoided. The second, however, although not lethal, hit her right on the side of the abdomen, sending her rolling on the grass. She quickly stood up, quickly enough like to escape from the third attack. Clearly enough, range was against her on this battle. That monster had long weapons, hers were so tiny. She couldn’t even get close to him!

She began to evade her enemy’s strikes, jumping from one side to the other incessantly, while she asked herself what the hell she was doing. At this pace, she would eventually get tired, and it wasn’t like the robot could get tired too. She had to try to find a way to… to…

Defeat it? Was that even possible!?

“Everything’s possible for a Possible” Her mom used to say, reminding her which name she carried.

She blocked the next strike with both daggers, barely managing to deflect the lance enough to miss her, and then, seeing a chance, she tried to attack the robot, just to be smashed by its shield, which sent her backwards again, rolling on the ground and ending up with her face on the ground.

She couldn’t… she couldn’t do this! Not alone, not without any help. She was just buying time, delaying her and her sisters’ death! There was no way she could defeat this enemy! She had neither her mom’s fighting skill nor her mother’s powers. She might have inherited both hair colors and her mother’s skin tone, but none of their strength. She was, even with the battle-suit, just a weakling…

Wait a minute!

Standing up on the last moment, just in time to escape from another killing strike, she contemplated possibilities she had not thought of until now. Perhaps the daggers were the wrong choice of weapon for her. The battle-suit, on the other hand, offered more possibilities. Not to mention that she had never known about its shield function until today. Maybe if she used it right, maybe… just maybe…

Pressing on its middle leg, the android charged forward one more time, its lance heading straight towards the girl who awaited edgily, dodging it just in the last moment but by just mere inches, trapping it around her arms and against her body, pressing it tightly, not letting it go. The robot pulled, struggled… but for its very surprise, which in a robot indicated the encounter of something that contradicted its calculation, its pneumatic force was being restrained by that thirteen years old girl!

Shin pulled with all her might and the power the suit could bring her… and she brought down the robot to its knees, managing to make it lose its balance. With more determination than ever, she ran forth again. The robot covered itself with its shield, but that did not suit very well when the young girl’s powered fist smashed against it with unbelievable strength, creating a dent on the metal and making it fall on its back.

She kept on attacking, but didn’t last much until the robot got rid of her, sending her rolling on the grass like before.

Did she have a chance? Or… not? Well, there was only one way to know.
However, and unknown yet to her, the android had know decided to take her seriously.

Not only with its middle leg, but also propelling itself with its impellers, the metallic monster practically flew towards the little girl who rolled to her right just in time. But that did nothing to stop her enemy, who just gave a long turn without stopping its flight. Shin eluded it once more, only to see it repeating the same tactic. Acknowledging this, she knew she had to find a way to stop him, and quick.

She knew how…

Once more the robot missed on its attack, and as it flew away before turning back to try again, its artificial mind was already conjecturing other strategies. But as it approached to the girl once more, finding her in a disfavoring pose, it persisted on its actual move, even speeding up. However, when its vision of its target was clear enough, it noticed how she was lifting up a rock that was, according to its internal data about humans and its capabilities, far bigger and heavier than what a normal girl could lift, let alone throw against a target with the speed she managed as she screamed the effort.

Needless to say, the mechanical assassin could not escape the impact which ruined its flight and made of this its turn to roll on the terrain. It couldn’t even stand up before ‘that annoying girl’ made it to him jumping on its body. It tried to get rid of her with its arm and lance-arm, but the relentless kid kept them separated with nothing but her incomprehensibly strong legs just before pulling out her daggers once again and, with the very same inexplicable potency, stabbed them on its head, piercing the hard armor and considerably damaging its circuits. Right after that, she jumped backwards.

It was now or never. If she had learned anything about battle, that was to never let go of a chance when she had it, and now was the time. The enemy’s defenses were open, its vision probably damaged. With all the power her suit could give her, she had to destroy it now!

She ran toward him, screaming out everything she had been crying for during this night. Her rage, her frustration and her sadness were her motivations now, as she charged forward to destroy the assassin for once and for all.

But she couldn’t.

She just… couldn’t.

How? She wondered as she stood there, quiet and still, in front of her defeater. It had all happened so fast that she didn’t have time to even feel the pain, too fast for her to even notice!

How is it possible!?

Just now… only now, as she placed her hands around the lance that had pierced her chest, she could feel the torturous sensation of her flesh and organs being sliced open. Not even words, or any coherent or understandable sound, could come out of her mouth to express what she was feeling. Her little, shivering hands tried in vain to pull it out, just causing more suffering to herself and making her vision even blurrier.

I was so close… we were so close…

She curved herself, pounding her forehead against the lance on which she coughed blood. Now she was practically holding herself to it in an attempt to lessen the unbearable pain. Nonetheless, as her senses abandoned her, one after another, she realized, by the hard and wrong way, that any struggle or effort now would only be futile.

Was it all… for nothing?

As her tears mixed with her blood, everything around her went black. She could no longer hear anything around her, nor could she taste the blood on her mouth or smell the splattered drops on the sharp weapon. Her entire body was going numb second after second, dissipating the agony, making it go away… making it all go away…

I failed…

Until only darkness remained…

I failed!

Yet, regardless of how tormenting it was, if there was anything she would have wished to keep with herself as she died, that would have been the pain… because death was not enough, death would never be enough to atone for this! How could she die now!? How could she die and leave her sisters all by themselves!? How was she supposed to face her mothers then!? HOW!? She could never… she could never look at them in the eyes again! Not after this, not after failing them.

Mother… Mom…

Oh, Shin…

I failed you… I failed both of you… I failed my sisters too… I failed you all!

No…

I’m worthless, hopeless! I couldn’t do anything right! I would have never survived on my own and this is the proof of it!

That’s not true…

Yes, it is!

It is not… Shin…

What?

She opened her eyes, unable to recall when she had closed them, and meet with nothing but blackness once again, but this time, feeling that she was not alone. No… she couldn’t be. There was a presence, there was a light somewhere, a light and a voice she knew. All she had to do… all she needed to do… was to look up, to face forward… to meet her.

“Mom!!” She called out, even if she couldn’t speak moments ago, because even if all this didn’t make any sense, her mom was there, looking back at her with a warm smile and a caring look in her beautiful green eyes. She was there…

“Mom…”

…and she could not stand the shame she carried on her soul…

“M-mom…” She babbled, barely understandably. “Mom, I… I…” And the tears, they fell like raindrops. “I’m… I am…” Her voice was mere whining, the expression on her face was the one of a broken down person. “I…” She bit her lip, pressed her teeth and half closed her crying eyes. “I’M SORRY!!!”

She broke… she broke in laments, sobs and weeps. The truth was… she wanted her mom to forgive her, to tell her, to convince that, somehow, someway, everything was going to be okay. Maybe then, just maybe… she could then rest in peace…

But even then… her mother just stayed quiet, still smiling and looking at her, but without saying any words. Her only response was… to rise her hand forward…

Regardless of how strong her desire to reach her was, Shin could not move on ahead. As much as she wanted to, it was as if the lance was still in her way, prohibiting her to advance. So all that she could do, all that she was able to do in order to get to her beloved mom was to extend her own hand to, reaching out for her, meaningfully wanting to be with her, to hug her… just to watch her hand disappear, vanish in the air when she was just about to touch it.

“Mom!” She called out, watching in horror as, right after her hand, her arm started to disappear too, leaving only shinning dust that fell around and faded away in the darkness. Same thing was happening with the rest of her extremities… “MOM!”

This torture was by far crossing the limits now, treating her sanity as the only consolation she had in her lonely and pathetic death was taken away from her. The poor girl extended her hand even more, but to her inconsolable sorrow, it was all in vain. If anything, her mom was just getting farther and farther as she went astray in front of her daughter eyes, still smiling, still looking tenderly at her.

Was this all? Just a glimpse of her mommy before dying? If that was it, then Shin, who lowered her head in depression, had no doubt now: There was no hope for her. No absolution. No salvation. Just… nothing.

“Shin…” Her mom finally spoke, with only her head and shoulders left, getting all of her daughter’s attention. Their eyes met once more, the gentle ones against the crying ones that were pleading for her words, which turned out to be nothing expected, but just three simple words declared in the way only a mother can say them, the way her daughter needed…

Shin was left in the darkness again, all alone with her thoughts, with her confusion and unanswered questions. Her mom… didn’t tell her what to do, nor did she tell her she had done neither wrong nor right.

“I love you” Was all she said… right before disappeared… smiling until the end.

What was that supposed to mean, to indicate? What should she do know? Rest in peace? Stay there and atone for the disappointment she turned out to be by suffering this vast loneliness? No. That wasn’t what her mom tried to tell her. She didn’t judge her, she didn’t test her. All she did… was to say those three words.

Because that’s she wanted to say?

Because that’s what she needed to hear?

In the end, there was only one thing for sure: Her mom loved her. Her countless effort in this night… or her concluding failure didn’t matter. All that mattered, all that was real… was that her mom loved her.

She understood know… that what she had been worried about wasn’t the answer she was looking for. Her worries, or the resolutions for it, couldn’t be the answer because, in fact and reality, it didn’t matter. The truth was… that there was no answer. There can’t be an answer if there isn’t a question. She never even had a question!

She always knew what she had to do, always. So come heaven and hell if they must, but she was staying with her decision!

“I promise, mom!” She vowed, looking up at where her mom had been “I’m going to protect my sisters, mom! I swear, I swear I’m going to get them safe, and we’ll be back to you… together, mom…” Finally, she let go of the last, the very last tears she would drop on that night, and screamed her heart out: “I SWEAR, MOM!!”

And so, her resolution and scream became an explosion. An explosion that was born from her hands, an explosion that eradicated the darkness around her… and blew away the robotic assassin that was still in front of her, pulling its weapon out of her body.

For the third time, the automat fell hard on the ground, some of its internal gears getting damaged because of the strong impact, but it quickly began to regain its balance, regaining its focus on the target that, according to every sense of logic programmed in its mechanical mind, should be lifeless by now. However, what its visor registered was another thing even more illogical, the facts themselves didn’t make sense!

The target should be dead, but she was walking again, the wound between her breasts cicatrizing under a greenish form of energy that resembled flames and that was generated from her hands. Analyzing the possibilities, there was a chance that the lance might have not incurably wounded her, but it was still lethal unless there could be instant medical attention, and even with that, the injured individual could definitely not stand up after that. This just was not possible!

“Everything’s possible for a Possible” Shin pronounced, almost as if she had just read the robot’s mind, her mom’s words, because she know believed in them.

She looked right straight at it. The computerized visor meeting those determined green eyes that were glowing with such intensity that the irises were impossible to distinguish. She was walking towards it again, with slow but strong steps, holding one hand on her chest and the other one hanging beside… with powerful flames emitting from it and growing around her arm.

Whatsoever, the assassin’s objectives hadn’t change, and eliminating anyone who stood in its way to the twins would pay the final consequences, as it was programmed in its core.

Raising its “arm”, the robot pointed its lance to the forthcoming woman… and literally fired it just like the Knights could fire their fists. The sharp weapon flew towards the dual-haired girl with its own propulsion, but nothing more than moving aside a little was needed for the girl to avoid it. She looked at the weapon until it smashed against some rock nearby, and then looked back at her enemy… smirking. You call that a shoot? The flames around her left arm increased noticeably. Let me teach you how it’s done!

The assassin had barely enough time to acknowledge and guard himself from the blazing beam that sent him backwards quite a few meters backwards, leaving three lines of footprint on the ground. After that, its mechanical mind didn’t have other alternative but to consider this girl’s threat’s level as the maximum rank. But with its lance wasted and some of its tactics already auto-considered ineffective against this girl, there were few options left for the robot.

His wings expanded, and Shin barely got any time to see something unplugging in them before ten missiles came out flying from its back, all programmed to go directly at her!

The explosion was amazing. And after that, no life sign could be detected around the massive cloud of dirt and smoke, or could it? Some sort of life signs could be detected occasionally inside the blur, but it was impossible to catch something clear. In this case, close inspection was required, for which the robot decided to get near the target.

That would be its biggest mistake.

Suddenly, the life signs were more than clear and closer than what it expected, and before it could do anything about it, the young princess had already jumped towards him, getting a hold to its main body. Already in alert, the automat tried to get rid of her by shaking her body and grabbing her with its only hand.

Shin resisted, but it wasn’t easy. The force-shield had managed to save her from the missiles, but resisting such attack demanded too much energy from the battle-suit, more than what its wearer should be allowed to exploit, which caused the suit to overheat and break itself, leaving it as nothing but just mere clothes. In other words, her strength was now nothing but the one of the little preteen she was, and the robot’s arm’s pneumatic potency was bigger. However…

I won’t give up!

She held tight to the robot placing her left hand on its shoulder and then she grabbed the mechanical arm by the inner side of the elbow with her right one, which she suddenly ignited with all the heat she could pull out, swiftly melting it and leaving the robots with just a pair of useless half-limbs. Now, all that reminded was to melt the head…

But the automaton’s program was pretty well constructed, having desperate alternatives in its program even when every weapon was already wasted or destroyed. From its shoulder and hips, metal cord came out that encircled the dual-haired woman, entrapping her against the metallic torso. And then, the robot flew again, high and straight into the sky and beyond, carrying the girl along itself and speeding up at the limits. It knew that, differing from machines, human beings needed oxygen to survive, and by taking this threatening enemy to the outside space, it would manage to kill her…

If she permitted him, of course!

Pressing her teeth, she brought out her just awakened powers, the very same powers of her mother that now were also her owns, against her enemy’s body, melting it without mercy even if the immensely high temperature was hurting her as well. Her hands managed to get inside the torso, filling the machine with her fire from the inside. Its body started to burnish as it began to malfunction, resembling pretty much a living creature that desperately struggled to survive. Not that it would work anyway…

Shin screamed her rage out, her flames flying out of many parts of the assassin’s body from its insides until it finally exploded in thousands of tiny pieces, destroying it for once and for all. All that was left was a barely conscious girl falling from the higher than what’s even visible.

“Mom…” Escaped from her lips as her eyes closed.

She was falling in silence, head down, and nothing would save her. But even so… she was in peace, filled with rightful joy and pride from her own victory and with hope for their mommies’ as well. Now, finally, she could calmly say it was finally over and that she had, without any doubt, protected her beloved sisters until the very, very end.

Someday she could be reunited with her mommies, show her the babies first as she waited anxiously, and once they were done with them, hug them both. She could already picture it, dream it. They would all be so happy that they all would cry. And then she could finally ask her…

“Mom, did I do it right?”

And the only answer she needed was in her memory: That smile and look in her eyes.

It was all she needed.

Opening her eyes, she turned over herself in midair, positioning herself horizontally as she faced the ground that was nearer at every moment. She could already see it clearly. It would only be seconds until she “arrived”, so she hurried up in her efforts for reuniting all the possible energy in her hands to finally, when she thought it was the right time, fire it against the ground with all of her might, the propulsion slowing down her fall until she finally landed on the deep crater her own flames created.

She stood up and, only then and for the first time in a long one, finally felt the tiredness and fatigue even deep down on her bones, all the weariness practically demanding her to just lay down and rest. But even so… she could do that… not yet. She just needed… to keep going… for a little longer. Just… a bit more, just… ‘til she… and her sisters…

She couldn’t walk out of the crater. Her exhausted legs couldn’t do that anymore. It took all of her limps to take her out crawling from there, and only in plain land she could rely on her legs to go faster… with her remaining vitality fueled by the desire of being reunited with the twins, who were only… just… meter away.

“Kasy! Sheki!” She ‘screamed’, as possibly as it was.

Reaching to where they were, she found both of them sleeping, hugging each other amorously as if wanting to keep themselves warm, which brought a smile to their older sister’s face. She sighed relieved, and even though she loved seeing them like that, she woke them up. Sheki yawned, and Kasy stretched herself out. Shin chuckled, gaining their attention. Both twins noticed and smiled, extending their arms toward their savior, who carefully took hold of them in her arms, hugging them lovingly as the babies giggled cheerfully.

“Everything’s going to be okay now” She told them, kissing their foreheads.

The dual-haired princess stood up, a bit surprised that the fatigue was wearing itself off and that she actually wasn’t really sleepy, so she could probably go on a bit more tonight, which was really a good thing. With the speedboat broken, all that was left for her was to walk alongside the river until she finally found the nearest town.

“Let’s go” She simply said, calmly and without fear as she began to walk. She gave her natal city one last look, finding it barely visible on the horizon, and then she forgot about it, focusing on the way ahead.

The past was history… and all that mattered now was the future. Nothing would change what happened tonight, but just like happiness, as it was proved tonight, tragedy doesn’t last forever. She knew her future would be bright and prosper… because she was going to make it like that!

Whoever was responsible for this catastrophe would one day see that no evil deeds could ever destroy the powerful union her mother had once constructed. She herself would show them that and she knew she wouldn’t be alone. Her mothers, her sisters, her guardians, allies and all of their friend would be there with her, to unite as one and fight until the end. Their enemies would fall as they apprised to claim for their fate. They would see… they would stand up and fight together for eternity. Through their strength, they would forge their own destiny, and all of them together would prove her words:

“We shall never surrender”

Not exactly KiGo, but rather Post-KiGo, settled in the KiGo-ish universe created by :iconyogurthfrost: through his "What If" pics, though settled some years after the war ([link] & [link]). This is my tribute to him, one of my favourite artists, and to two of my favourite writers: :iconblackbird2: and :iconnodrog:

Overall, this Prologue/One-shot was based on his Epilogue for the "What If" universe ([link]).

And this story is focused on Shin, Kasy and Sheki, three of the most populars KiGo Daughters. This is also my biggest work in action in a good while. I've tried new methods for writing fighting scenes, attempting to create some suspense, and I hope I was successful. Please tell me your opinion, guys. I hope you enjoy it.

Shin, originally from the "Maternal Instinct" universe, belongs to Blackbird ([link])
Kasy and Sheki, originally from the "Small Possibilties" Universe, belong to NoDrogs ([link])
